Brother Tullis will be missed so much but we know he is with the Lord. He has been so instrumental in our lives and we have really enjoyed his visits and phone conversations. He always came over and cut mine and my mom's grass, trimmed hedges, fixed my lawnmower and had good conversations on the front porch with me and momma (Shirley Bailey). He always had his faithful dog with him too. James always called and checked on us and sent texts on every Holiday or special date. One thing that he had always wanted to do was talk to the prisoners on Death Row in Jackson. He wanted them to be saved and to know that Jesus had died for them. He was finally approved and enjoyed teaching them how they could change their lives. I shared with him the name of an inmate M,R, who I had arrested for murders committed on Easter 1999., I told him that M.R. had once drawn a picture of his soul both in Heaven and Hell with a question mark. The Prison warned him that he was dangerous but James met with him anyway. After 3 meetings M.R. prayed the sinners prayer and embraced Brother Tullis and told him to make sure that I knew he would be going to Heaven FOR SURE. Brother Tullis was full of excitement and joy every time he talked to M.R. who was so anxious to learn all he could about God - not Mohammed. He helped my teenage daughter gain sobriety and respect through the drug/alcohol program. Me and Momma called him this past Friday. I got James so confused because I thought I was calling my cousins husband James. After we straightened out we have a good laugh and He told me he was worried about my mind or his one! It was a fun conversation. He sure does miss being away from Pam but he said they would be back together soon, Mr. Tullis thank you so much for everything! you fulfilled your mission God gave you in Soul winning. A murderer is a Christian and thinks the world of you! Praying for Pam and the kids and grandkids and your sweet loyal dog. We will meet again.

When I first came to the church almost 10 years ago, Bro JT was the first person I met. He sat with me that service and encouraged me in the Lord, as I was looking for a church home at the time. Through the many years now of being with Bro JT, we’ve enjoyed worshiping the Lord together, talking about how good the Lord is, and the joy of our salvation! Bro JT helped me so much in my Christian life, whether it was SoulWinning, standing and protecting my preacher and church, or just being a sold out separated Christian.. I know he is at our saviors feet now worshiping, and I can’t wait to see him again soon. Thankful that I talked to him Friday, one of the last things he told me was that he loved me, and that no matter how bumpy the road may get, just keep serving God and living for Him. Love you Bro JT, I’ll be seeing you soon!

My heart grieves along with the Tullis and Dawkins families in the home going of Brother James. He was one of the first people I met when I started going to Heritage Baptist Church of Locust Grove, Georgia. A mighty man of God. Loved God, Loved his family and Loved his church and Loved his Preacher (Hopkins). He was not ashamed to shout during church service. I loved to hear him testify about how good God is. Miss you Bro James. Your sister in Christ Veronica

My dear cousins,
I remember James with great fondness. I remember his and Pam's wedding. I believe it was at Bethabra Baptist Church in Winder. I was just a kid. I had so many older Patrick cousins though that I was very familiar with the wedding ceremony and I looked forward to the cake and punch served afterwards. James made his love for his bride memorable. When the minister said, "You .may kiss your bride." There was obviously the logistical issue of their difference in height. James didn't hesitate. He lifted the love of his life by her waist, lifted her, and gave her their first shared kiss as husband and wife. The guests roared with laughter and in celebration of love. Each time James became a Daddy to his beloved children Anthony and Amanda, he was walking on sunshine. Where most fathers shy away from particular parental duties (in particular, muddy diapers), James did not yield to Pam. Instead, he took charge and took his precious babies and changed their diaper. I remember how much this impressed all family members. The love and respect he already had earned, grew tremendously. I recall a story told that Anthony and Amanda rubbed down their cat with Vasoline and James let them live! That's love! Now how do you get a thick coat of Vasoline out of fur; much less to actually bathe a cat? James was always the life of our gatherings at MaPat's home on Georgia Avenue when we gathered for special events. In more recent years I have seen James much less frequently. Still, he has remained a beloved family member who I loved family deeply. James was devout in his faith and loved Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father. He lives now in a day without end, in God's eternal embrace, and knows the Love and Peace that we can only imagine.
I know that James will be there to greet each of us as we make our eventual journey. In time, he will lift his precious bride once again to kiss and embrace her. Until we see him again one glorious day, I send my love and sympathy to Pam, Anthony, Amanda and their families.

Brother Tullis was one of a kind. He was so eager to share the gospel with others and likewise to share how God had worked in his own life. You could always count a hearty shout from the middle section of the sanctuary when Brother Tullis was there. Before Covid, just about the only time he wasn't there was if he went to the jails and prisons to preach. Before services started I could always count on us having a brief chat and chuckle about college football. Even though we cheered for different sports teams, we worshipped the same Holy God, and he didn't play around when it came to Heaven. That was the most important thing about meeting Brother Tullis. He wanted to know that you knew Jesus. I am so very thankful for the 10 years that I have known him and his family. I will miss him greatly, I'm praying for you Sister Pam. I consider myself so richly blessed for the fellowship that we have shared. God Bless you all during this time.
Sincerely,
Susan Harp
