Obituary of Betty Irene Gilbert

Mrs. Betty Irene Waters Gilbert, age 91, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Wellstar Spalding Hospital.

Betty was born on Wednesday, January 27, 1932, in Marietta, Georgia to the late Everette Henry Waters and the late Lucille Wright Waters.  Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Hiram Lee Smith, Henry Lee Gilbert; son, Samuel Hiram Smith; grandsons, Levi Bragg, Jeremy Booth. She was a member of Worthville Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed gardening, flowers, couponing, yard sales, and especially camping. Going to Tybee Island and the mountains were some of her favorite places to travel. Most of all, she loved her family.

Betty is survived by her children, David and Renee Smith, Bonnie Sue Harper, Gary Smith; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Rebecca Byrd, Mary Bledsoe, Sue Cochran; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Mr. Rudy Mangham officiating. Interment will follow at Worthville Baptist Church Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Worthville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 112 Old South River Road, Jackson, Georgia 30233.
