James Jefferson Wood, age 80, of Jackson, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Sylvan Grove Hospital. He was born on October 17, 1933 in Decatur, GA to the late William Donald Wood and the late Nellie Jo Nicholson Wood. James retired from Nabisco. He was a Mason. James served 8 years with the Naval Reserves. He was an auto mechanic and a NASCAR fan. James loved to fish and watch baseball and football. He is preceded in death by his son, Fred Wood; grandson, Jamie Wood; sister, Violet Swann; brothers, Don Wood, William McCord, and Dennis McCord.
James is survived by his wife, Mary Gray Wood; children, Tim and Becky Wood, Bill and Karen Wood, Chris and Ronnie Hall, Teresa Wood and Tommy Petty; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Daniel McCord and Benny McCord; sisters, Marie McCord, Shirley VanMeter, and Yvonne Truett; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for James Wood will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Mr. Rudy Mangham officiating. Interment will be at Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday evening. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.
