Mr. William Calvin Lawson, age 79, of Jackson, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at his home after battling cancer. Calvin was born on Thursday, May 23, 1935 in Porterdale, GA to the late Lucious Lawson and the late Viola Wingate Lawson of Jackson. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Wilma Lawson of Chattanooga, TN, a brother, George Lawson of Chattanooga, TN, and a sister and brother-in-law, Retha and Edward Cox of Chase City, VA.
Calvin was a member at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1964. Calvin was a retired truck driver and enjoyed working on cars, working in the yard, and gardening. He loved God and his family and loved his daily Bible reading. Calvin was a very devoted Christian and lived his life as a testimony to God. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, leaving behind a legacy like no other.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fay Washington Lawson; 3 sons, Kent Lawson, Chris (Sandi) Lawson of Jackson, Danny (Christy) Lawson of Forsyth; 2 daughters, Robin (Donald) Cowart of Williamson, GA, and April Lawson Herrmann of Jackson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Alice (Jack) Wade of El Paso, TX; mother-in-law, Nina Washington; 2 brothers-in-law, Aubrey (Charlotte) Washington and Lamar Washington, all of Jackson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Calvin Lawson will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Reverend Mike Saffels and Reverend Bobby Hooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service.
