Obituary of Herschel Grier

Herschel Edward Grier, Sr., age, 75, of Jackson, GA, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. He was born on Monday, December 25, 1939 in Jackson, GA to the late Neal Grier and the late Annie Kate Gilmore Grier. Herschel was a deputy and baliff for the Butts County Sheriff’s Department and was retired from the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison. He is preceded in death by a son, Michael Grier.
Herschel is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Grier; children, Herschel Bernard Hargett, Janice Ware, Herschel E. Grier, Jr., Reginald Dupree, Anthony Grier, Rosalyn Tullis, Vincent Grier, Joel Stokes, Bernard Watts, Monica Johnson, Cheryl Akins, Doris Grier; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Sara L. Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Herschel Grier will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Christopher Cleveland officiating. Interment will be at Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.
