Obituary of Allison Fuqua

Mr. Allison Fuqua, age 101 ½, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on Saturday, May 16, 1914 in Lilly, GA to the late Andrew Augustus Fuqua and the late Hester Jarrell Fuqua. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Prock Fuqua, and brothers, Joe Fuqua, Benjamin Fuqua, Walter Fuqua, Henry Fuqua, and Olin Fuqua.
Mr. Fuqua was a longtime resident of Butts County and, for many years, the recipient of The Oldest Man prize at the EMC annual meeting. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked in a munitions plant while living in Long Island, New York with Frances.
Mr. Fuqua was exceptionally civic minded and a Lifetime Certified Master Gardener. He was known throughout the South East for his expertise in the propagation and culture of both native and domestic azaleas.
Mr. Fuqua was a Mason for over fifty years. The volunteer auxiliary of Sylvan Grove Hospital was proud to have him serve. His homemade roasted peanuts were a vital contribution to their fund raisers for many years.
Mr. Allison Fuqua is survived by a sister, Grace Fuqua; nieces, Debra Fuqua Cawthon, Imogene Crider, Gayle Fuqua Rodriguez; nephews, Robert Fuqua, Max Fuqua, Bennie Fuqua, Edwin Fuqua, Andy Fuqua, and William Crider. Special friends, Linda and Ronny Yates and Jan Banister will miss him sorely. There are countless friends, too many to name, will miss him also.
At his request, there were no funeral services at the time of his passing. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at his home for family and friends. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com
