Mr. Wendell (Doc) George Spencer, Sr., of Jackson, GA, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 3, 1932 in Jackson, GA to the late Abraham George and Julia Bell Coleman Spencer. Doc was a long time member of Liberty Baptist Church, Deacon Emeritus of the church, 50yr member of St. John's Masonic Lodge # 45 of Jackson, Scottish Rite, 32nd degree Mason and a 55yr member of the UAW Local #34. Doc was a Korean War Veteran, stationed in Japan where he served as a Signal Corp Lineman. He enjoyed working at the church, tinkering on his John Deere tractor, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Doc Spencer is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Elaine Spencer, of Leslie; 3 sisters and brother-in-law, Daftner Fincher, of Jackson, Joan and Ralph Barclay, of Eatonton, Mary Lois Singley, of Jackson; one brother and sister-in-law, Emory and Margaret Spencer, of Jackson; sister-in-law, Lucille Friend, of Bruceton Mills, WV; 2 grandchildren, Blake and Niki Spencer, of Monroe, Kelle and Brandon Ashley, of Macon; step-son, Gregg Jones, of Newnan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Spencer, and his first wife and mother of his son, Tommie Mae Spencer. Funeral services for Mr. Doc Spencer will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur Jett and Rev. Billy Roberts officiating. Mr. Spencer will lie in state at the church from 2:30 until the hour of service. Interment will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday evening. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 3043 High Falls Rd., Jackson, GA 30233.
