Obituary of Shirley Pope

Mrs. Shirley Mae Davis Pope, age 79, of Jackson, GA, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital. She was born on Monday, November 22, 1937 in LaGrange, GA to the late Gilbert D. Davis and the late Ruby Lee Byars Davis. Shirley was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She loved reading, sewing, needle point, knitting, and embroidery. Shirley loved her church and Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy Faircloth and Dovie Barnes. Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Pope; children, Robert and Becky Pope, Lee Pope, Alan and Wanda Pope; grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Chris, Shane, Raymond, and Kyle; 6 great-grandchildren; cousins, Charles Byars (Janice), Barbara Byars Turner; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Billy Moore and Jerry LeMacks. Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Pope will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Dr. Lane Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make a contribution to the Double Nickle Club, ℅ Macedonia Baptist Church, 151 Macedonia Church Road, Jackson, GA.
