Obituary of Jane Cato
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane Ann Cato, of Jackson, GA, passed on the morning of Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Emory University Hospital of a sudden illness. 68 years old, she was born on October 2, 1944 in Bermuda, to the late Winifred Johnson. The devoted wife of a U.S. Air Force Veteran, Jane lived in Florida, Atlanta, California, and Italy before moving to Jackson in early 1981. Jane’s loves, strengths, and motivations are lessons to all of us. As a teacher she poured her heart into her work by caring for children. In more than 30 years of service to the community, she loved all her kids unconditionally from her non-profit home day-care center on Cook Rd. As a mother, faith and family were two words commonly used in the same sentence. She never took a vacation from her primary job as matriarch of the family. As a person, Mrs. Jane was the embodiment of light and the grace of God, shared openly and unending with all that she touched. Jane is survived by Pete Cato, her husband of fifty-one years five months and two days; daughter, Darlene Cato; son and daughter-in-law, Pete Jr. and Terrie Cato; grandson, D.J. Hobbs, and grandson, Francesco and Anne-Kathrin Kozerski, who are expecting great-granddaughter Emelyn Jane Kozerski in April 2013; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Winnie and Keith Perry, Diane and Tim Naegele, both of FL; brother and sister-in-law, Lubin and Laurel Sousa, of Bermuda; several nieces, nephews, and her four legged baby, "Little Bit". She is preceded in death by her mother, Winifred Johnson; uncle, David Moniz; sister, Lena Sousa; and two brothers, Stevie Sousa and Jimmie Thompson. Services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home in Jackson, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to www.janesfoundation.org, a charity for children, in her honor. Please contact the family at 567-203-2874 or 678-247-4989 for more information. Those unable to attend may sign the online registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.
