Obituary of Inez Owens

Mrs. Winifred Inez Morgan Owens, age 91, of Jackson, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. 

Inez was born on Saturday, November 7, 1931, in Ashville, NC to the late Marion Calloway Morgan and Mary Ada Glenn Morgan. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Owens, Sr.; daughter, Angela Yvonne Owens; sister Mabel Augusta Morgan; brothers Alton Glenn Morgan, Marion Donald Morgan. Inez was a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church in North Carolina. She had a passion for music and teaching her wonderful students of Wheeler County. Ms. Inez went on to teach and retire in Newton County. She held the Women’s Single Bowling Championship in the State of Georgia in the late 60’s. She played basketball in high school. She was very active her whole life.

Inez is survived by her son, Thomas “Tony” James Owens Jr. (Tina), daughter, Teresa Owens Moore (Larry); grandchildren; Leah Owens and Technical Sgt. Zachry Owens (Jessica) in the US Airforce; great-grandchildren, Jensen Owens and Autumn Owens; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Inez Owens will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. at Sherrell Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Michael Flourney officiating. Interment will follow the service at Jackson City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 1:30P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
